My Baby Cold Chisel

My Baby, My Baby
My Baby, My Baby
I know this little girl she’s quite a picture
I do my very best oh boy to keep her
She’s got what it takes to warm my soul
Maybe it’s because she wears no makeup
Doesn’t think she’s got the legs that shape up
She can’t rock but boy she can roll
I know I got
My Baby, My Baby
She’s all that I need
Hanging around
She’s all I need
She makes my world feel so good to me
We turn on in the most peculiar places
Many people turn with bowed red faces
We don’t care what they say all the same
I got this little girl she’s quite a picture
Ain’t no-one anywhere ever gonna steal her
She has won my heart I love her so

tailors, street portrait, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Tailors at the waterfront market, Kota Kinabalu. The night market is held in the open space in the background.

Some of them work during the day, some work at night. These men are self-employed and they provide invaluable low-cost service.

I have tried sewing on a machine like the one in the photo. (A long time ago.) My mom still has one. No fingers were harmed in the process. 😀

photographer and photographed.

A tourist in the morning sun and weaving his way through the crowd. Photographed at the Sunday market, Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu.

It is easy to pick the tourists in the scene… they stand head and shoulders above the crowd! Sabah is generally a very hospitable place. The community here is really multi-cultural.

And Kota Kinabalu, being the gateway to the other places of interest in Sabah, is rather ‘international’. Besides the Americans, British, Aussies, Koreans and Japanese, I have met many travellers from France, Germany and other parts of Europe as well. The bulk, of course, are from Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei and Sarawak. (Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei are neighbours on Borneo Island.)
