Ranau drive-by {wide}

View from the front of the coach on the way back from Poring Hot Spring to Ranau.

Photographed in late afternoon as the coach headed for Ranau, a town 15 from Kundasang. Kundasang lies at the foot of Mt Kinabalu at an altitude of about 1,000 metres above sea level and it has a panoramic view of Mt Kinabalu (peak at 4,095 metres / 13,435 feet). It is the closest village to the mountain. The population here is mainly native Dusun with a small number of Chinese.

Behind the roadside market at Kundasang is the War Memorial and Gardens, a landmark to commemorate the 2,428 Australian and British prisoners who died during WWII. The garden is planted with flowers and plants from Borneo, Australia and Great Britain. The Kundasang Golf Course is located at the boundary with the National Park. The journey from Kota Kinabalu to Kundasang took about 1 hr 45 mins, and another 1 hr to Poring Hot Springs.
