chicken stall at the night market

At the waterfront night market. This stall sells chicken. Only halal products are allowed at this market. Opens from 5 pm to 11 pm daily.

The official religion of Malaysia is Islam. In line with religious sensitivities, pork is not sold at open markets in the city, such as this one. It is also not on the menus of the major hotels.

However, Sabah is a lot more multi-cultural than most other states in Malaysia. At the food courts in shopping malls and super-markets in the city, one can still find non-muslim food sections. Pork is still sold at the open markets in Chinese residential areas outside the city.
